Out-of-the-Box Events have limited &#8220;fields&#8221; to use. Title, Description, and Location are about all we have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The purpose of custom fields is so you can use them in your Reminder Templates.       <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Events Scheduled WITH GReminders:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When a customer schedules a meeting with you via a GReminders Event Type AND you are using GR Custom Fields, we will automatically write the fields back to <a href=\"https:\/\/developers.google.com\/calendar\/api\/guides\/extended-properties\">Google Event Extended Properties<\/a> OR <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/graph\/api\/resources\/extended-properties-overview?view=graph-rest-1.0\">Microsoft&#8217;s Office Graph Extended Properties<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These fields may be used by downstream integrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Passing Custom Field Data TO GReminders:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For now, we are not pulling extended Properties from Google or Microsoft Events. We may change this decision in the future. Please contact support@greminders.com if you want to discuss this topic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are supporting custom fields for GReminders via the Body of the Event. We parse certain elements of the Text and write them to our Custom Field area. In your Event description, you can add the following type of template:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">Do not write below this line\n~~METAFIELDS~~\n$KEY=$VALUE\n$KEY=$VALUE\n.....<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Specifically, we are looking for the string ~~METAFIELDS~~ and then parsing the keys\/values from there.   Here is a real example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">Meeting with Dr. Jones\n\nDo not write below this line\n~~METAFIELDS~~\nc_type=Initial Visit\nc_source=referral\nc_subtype=virtual<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Note if you use the same &#8220;API Name&#8221; as in your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greminders.com\/articles\/enhancing-efficiency-with-custom-fields\/\">Custom Fields<\/a>, you can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greminders.com\/articles\/mapping-questions-to-your-crm-during-online-scheduling\/\">map them to your CRM<\/a> as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then, in your Reminder Template, you can reference custom fields using this syntax:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">{{custom.$KEY}}<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>In other words, you can use something like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">{{custom.c_type}} <\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>which will equate to &#8220;Initial Visit&#8221; in the example above.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This can be combined with the Templating engine to produce powerful IF THEN type logic.
