For example, it\u2019s easy to insert a field named \u201cFirst_Name\u201d into an email (as a variable), Dear [First_Name]. However, since there are no First Name fields in your Google or Outlook calendar, you have to be a little more clever in order to personalize your text message reminders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Personalizing Text Messages When You Add an Appointment Manually to Your Calendar<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In situations where you add an appointment directly to your Google or Outlook calendar, there is no &#8220;firstname&#8221; variable available. There is, however, the &#8220;Event Title&#8221; variable that typically contains the name of the person with whom you are meeting.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can\u2019t simply use the &#8220;Event Title&#8221; variable, since it usually contains additional information, like the person\u2019s last name, the appointment type, and maybe a phone number. You will have to use a little coding to strip out the person\u2019s first name from the title. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"931\" height=\"230\" src=\"https:\/\/www.greminders.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Body2-s.jpg\" alt=\"Put Name First in Event Title\" class=\"wp-image-1764\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.greminders.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Body2-s.jpg 931w, https:\/\/www.greminders.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Body2-s-300x74.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.greminders.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Body2-s-768x190.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 931px) 100vw, 931px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This is accomplished by using the following variable: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>{{  event.title  | split: \" \" | first }}<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"511\" height=\"407\" src=\"https:\/\/www.greminders.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/CalendarTitle-s.jpg\" alt=\"Name on Calendar\" class=\"wp-image-1765\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.greminders.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/CalendarTitle-s.jpg 511w, https:\/\/www.greminders.com\/articles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/CalendarTitle-s-300x239.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 511px) 100vw, 511px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The code actually strips the first word from the event title, so you must be sure that when you are adding an event to your calendar and you wish to utilize this code, <strong><em>you always start the event title with the person\u2019s first name.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you use automated scheduling along with scheduling appointments directly on your calendar, you should use custom criteria to send specific reminders to each type of scheduled event. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greminders.com\/articles\/confirming-appointments-and-personalizing-reminders-with-advanced-participant-data\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Learn more here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Using the techniques in this article will allow you to personalize the SMS appointment reminders you send to your clients.
